Flossing

Regular brushing will not clean the area of your teeth below the gums…this leads to tooth root decay and eventually tooth loss.  It will also lead to gum and periodontal disease and loss of bone density that holds your teeth in place.

Just a quick note – 60% of the population has gingivitis and don’t know it.  Did you know that gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease and if left untreated will lead to a more serious condition?

Dental floss cleans in between the teeth, where a toothbrush can’t reach.  Floss removes plaque and debris that adhere to teeth and gums in between teeth, polishes tooth surfaces and controls bad breath.

Floss is the single most important weapon against plaque, perhaps more important than the toothbrush.  Many people don’t spend enough time flossing or brushing, and many have never been taught to floss or brush correctly.

Make sure to ask Dr. Prosser or our Hygienist for proper flossing and brushing instructions the next time you are in for a visit.  Floss once a day, minimum, for at least two or three minutes.

This is why we do a complete check of the condition of your teeth and gums at every visit. If you’d like to make an appointment call us at 717-235-8234.
